I have tried almost everything to keep the squirrels from eating the bird’s seed. Years ago, when we had an outbreak of
gypsy moths, my father used something called Tanglefoot spread in a band around the trees. This looks like vaseline, but
it is so sticky, you really have to be careful not to get it on your hands!

I put it on my feeder poles, right below a baffle if there is one. I keeps chipmunks and squirrels off the sheppard hooks
and being smart creatures, they learn fast! It stays on in the rain and I only re-apply it where needed maybe every month
or two. Keep a plastic knife to spread it on with. You only have to use it on a few inches. It works great, just be careful about
where you put your hands if moving the sheppard hook! I found it on line, but also in Ace Hardware for the same price for
about a 1 lb tub. Try it! you won’t be disappointed
